El Paso Christmas Lights 2008

"This is the third year for the El Paso Christmas Light Show. The lights again are in sync with music by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Something special about this year's show is that it was viewed live by a few of the members of TSO before their concert in town. They were amazed with the show and gave the light show 4 STARS at their show the following day. The show will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. The house is located at 12001 Paseo De Oro which is at the corner of Montwood and Bob Mitchell. Hope to see you at El Paso's finest Christmas light show tradition three years running." - Adrian Hernandez

REQUIRED VIEWING: Young@Heart

When the Young@Heart Chorus began in 1982 the members all lived in an elderly housing project in Northampton, MA called the Walter Salvo House. The first group included elders who lived through both World Wars. The current performers in Young@Heart range in age from 73 to 92. There are some with prior professional theater or music experience, others who have performed extensively on the amateur level, and some who never stepped onto a stage before turning eighty. None of the current performers of Y@H were part of the original group that formed in 1982, but they have kept alive the spirit of the early pioneers and continue to push the group into glorious new directions. Find out more about this inspiring group on their myspace and also on their Fox Searchlight site.

RAINBOW FRIDAY
by Lee Stranahan
November 27, 2008

As I've written before, I lay a lot of the blame for the economy's current state on the giant corporations that run things. And tomorrow is Black Friday - when we're all supposed to be good little consumers and get up early in the morning, battle other consumers and buy lots of stuff. But from what I've seen of the Black Friday sales, they are lame, almost non-sales.

So I propose a new idea - Rainbow Friday. The idea is simple - people in online communities like this one just buy one thing from other people in that community tomorrow. It's US helping each other. Simple example - buy a copy of Bob's book as a gift. That's simple because we all know about Bob's book.

But what do YOU have for sale? Let's use the comments here to list stuff you sell. Anything - crafts you made on Etsy, music you created on CDBaby, services, ANYTHING - tell the other goddamn awesome people here about what you do and how we can buy it and let's all try to give each other a little shot in the arm.

5 ball combination shot. Impossible you say, perhaps beyond the realm of possibility? Nah... Cause he'll be stretchin' out those long tawny fingers, he's out across a cool green felt with a provocative golden gait and a pool table rail shot that's no sweat....as I leaned up against my banister... and the sun came crawlin' yellow out of a manhole at the foot of 23rd street as a dracula moon in a black disguise was makin' it's way back to it's prepaid room at the St. Moritz Hotel...

You Great Snorting Roadhog!

If I Had A Million With W.C. Fields And Alison Skipworth

REQUIRED UNDERSTANDING: 911 For Peace

It's in the paper every day
You see it in the headlines and you feel so sick, yeah
Another life leaves this world (this world) so full of hate
But short
Short on compassion
Short on humanity
Asking myself in vain, shaken by the shock,
"do we even have a chance?"

I don't wanna die
(I don't wanna kill)
I don't wanna kill
(I don't wanna die)
We are all human.
It's time to prove it.

This is a plea for peace (world peace)
To the oppressors of the world and to
To the leaders of nations, corporate profit takers,
to the every day citizen
Greed, envy, fear, hate - the competition has to stop.
When you see someone down, now's the time to pick them up
Set our differences aside and never look back, no

I don't wanna die
(I don't wanna kill)
I don't wanna kill
(I don't wanna die)
We are all human
It's time to prove it.

Isn't everybody tired of the fighting? (hey, hey)
Isn't everybody tired of the killing? (hey, hey)
Isn't everybody tired of the dying? (hey, hey)
Isn't everybody tired of the hatred? (hey, hey)
Violence... (hey, hey)
fighting... (hey)
killing... (hey)
dying.. (hey)
aaaaaah!!

[excerpt from Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech:]
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow,
I still have a dream
we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children,
black men and white men
Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join
hands and sing
"Free at last, free at last.
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last."

I don't wanna die
(I don't wanna kill)
I don't wanna kill
(I don't wanna die)
We are all human
It's time to prove it.

We are all human
It's time to prove it.
We are all human...

Shut down the SOA!

1, 2, 3, 4!

Has your life got you down? Are you feeling lost and blue?
I’m thinking maybe a career change is the best answer for you.
You’ve never lived, never known true romance,
Till you've been taught the steps to the death dance.
Fort Benning, Georgia's gonna teach you how to move!

Take our rights back! Stand up for Liberty!
This is the era when we give the world a better way.
Take our rights back! Shut down the SOA!
This is the era when we give the world a better way.

Torture, rape, murder and death are all waiting for you;
Democracy subversion, well, they got that covered too.
The grad names on their walls, most infamous of all dictators/coup leaders
Learn well, someday you may be ranked with these awesome k-k-k-k-killers!

Take our rights back! Stand up for Liberty!
This is the era when we give the world a better way.
Take our rights back! Shut down the SOA!
This is the era when we give the world a better way.

Take our rights back! Stand up for Liberty!
This is the era when we give the world a better way.
Take our rights back! Shut down the SOA!
The setting sun can burn a brilliant vibrant flame.

[Spoken Word by Father Roy Bourgeois]
We can see our country at work in Latin America,
on the side of the men with the guns, the sweatshops, the IMF of the World Bank.

They’re selling war as peace
STRIKE!
Doing it in our name
STRIKE! STRIKE BACK!
Tax dollars fund the war machine
STRIKE!
The people can’t live in its flames
STRIKE! STRIKE BACK!

[Spoken Word Continued]
We are on the side of the poor; on the side of life and hope and nonviolence...

AHHHHH!

Take our rights back! Stand up for Liberty!
This is the era when we give the world a better way.
Take our rights back! Shut down the SOA!
The setting sun can burn a brilliant vibrant flame!

Vibrant flame!

By any means necessary, ALL power to the people!

"When I started this project I knew that I wanted to interweave the events in the courtroom with the events a year earlier. For the longest time I couldn’t figure out how to deal with the trial as there was no footage of the proceedings. I knew that I wanted the audience to “experience” the courtroom rather than hear about it, so that ruled out talking head “eyewitness” interviews. Since I was going to be intercutting between archival material and the courtroom material I knew that the characters needed to look nearly identical, which in essence ruled out dramatic re-enactments with actors in costume. Then one day I read a quote from Jerry Rubin where he described the trial as “a cartoon show.” It was so obvious. By animating the trial I would not only avoid all of the clichés of historical non-fiction, but I would also be able to make a statement about the circus-like nature of that courtroom." - Brett Morgen

Bill Ayers - SPOT ON!

"McCain and Palin demanded to “know the full extent” of the Obama-Ayers “relationship” so that they can know if Obama, as Palin put it, “is telling the truth to the American people or not.”

This is just plain stupid.

Obama has continually been asked to defend something that ought to be at democracy’s heart: the importance of talking to as many people as possible in this complicated and wildly diverse society, of listening with the possibility of learning something new, and of speaking with the possibility of persuading or influencing others." -Bill Ayers

Fans always have been and always will be speculative and blindly susceptible to media and viral marketing techniques. Did Paul McCartney actually die in car accident in 1966? Is Puff The Magic Dragon actually about marijuana because his name is Puff and the boy's last name is Paper? What is Cloverfield? Is Fall Out Boy releasing a new album?  In the grand scheme of things and globally speaking....
